Primer-> Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot-Versus-Face of Australia Face Base

Everytime I teach a Makeup class I go through every single step of Makeup application. A great base will set you up for a perfect finish. One key step to a great base is Primer.

Primer is essential for prepping the skin. It creates a smooth surface for the foundation to glide over and will prevent your skin from sucking up the foundation (one of the main reasons our makeup fades during the day).

In a word you NEED primer for your makeup stay on.

One of the main ingredients to make primer stay on is Silicone. On your ingredients list it could also be known as:

dimethicone, polysiloxane,  cyclomethicone or phenyl trimethicone.

Because of Silicones structure they are at the same time porous and resistant to air.

Now, to get nerdy:

The molecular structure of cosmetic silicones makes it impossible for them to suffocate skin. Silicone has a structure which has larger molecules that have wider spaces between each molecule. This in turn creates a barrier between the skin and primer which is still breathable. This is why when you are wearing products which cosmetic silicones in them very rarely feel like they are heavy or suffocating on your skin.

-Silicone is larger than your pores so it sits on top rather than clogging.

One of the most well-known Primers is the recently repackaged Napoleon Perdis Auto Primer $55.00. Head on into your nearest Priceline or Big W and find yourself a Face of Australia ‘Face base’ $10.95. The difference? In my opinion, nothing. They have the same ingredients, feel the same and are the same bottle just with different colours. Hot tip: They are probably from the same factory. I have listed all of the ingredients from the back of each bottle in order. See if you can pick the difference:
